Hi everyone, I'm new here and I must say I'm completely lost. I just finished downloading the 3.50 gigs or so of elfen lied, and I have found it very difficult to find information regarding the subs.

Sorry, I don't understand Romanian, so if anyone can help me that would be great. I would like to know if there are English subs that I can plug in with elfen lied in VLC, so I can understand whats going on. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out.

Well dude, why didn't you download an english version of the anime? Its improbable that the download has the english sub, but still, there are so many places to get Elfen Lied, why choose an obscure romanian site? Oh, and on the down side, this forum has a rule that demands you speak romanian, so get to learning :P.

No, our version does not have any english subs. If you downloaded the torrent from tokyotosho.com, we stated there that it is a romanian fansub. You can easily find good quality english fansubs for Elfen Lied on all major torrent sites.

Well, that the thing guys, I downloaded this torrent from isohunt.com, a pretty good place in my opinion. The person who posted the torrent didn't provide any information aside from the fact that the files are in .mkv format. I've heard that this container format supports various subs and audio, so thats why I posted the question. The anime is completely in japanese, no subs whatsoever, so I guess it was released for subs to be "plugged" in so to speak; either that or you're japanese :)

Also, along with the movies I saw a .url pointing to this place for subs, thats how I ended up coming here. About the learning Romanian, that doesn't sound so bad, I'll get to learning if thats what it ultimately takes to understand this masterpiece! ;) of course that of last resort...

Unfortunately, we're not japanese. Since our subs were re-translated from english, I think that for you would be a better idea to download an english fansub :) You can find on mininova.org the a4e release on which we based our translation, i think.
If you found our torrent on isohunt, we did not upload it there.
You can't see any subtitle because VLC does not recognize the specific format we used. You need the CCCP codec pack, ffdshow or vsfilter to play them.

There's a high chance the English subs are included in the file. Especially if the files are .mkv. Try using Zoom Player, start an episode, then right click on the screen, go to stream selection or audio streams (or smth similar) and you should also see the available subs or voice overs. Greets!

Yeah that's true, but someone also should have a tool like Haali Media Splitter and Vob-sub for correct viewing of subs or choosing correctly between the audio-streams.
Actually I believe that Haali is both a sub-render too. Any players will do for choosing audio-streams and viewing embedded subs: WMP works just fine and uses for subs Vob-sub, Zoom Player does the same if not configured differently. What is great in Zoom Player is that it has an Install Center from which someone could choose to install these tools and some codecs like Ffdshow and the install is fully automatic and comes with the perfect configuration.
I use BS Player most of the times, but I have all the necessary codecs and tools for viewing all media formats. It's just that Bs Player can't always add subs over embedded ones always in the case of that media file having Chinese or other languages that some people don't know for example .
PS: about Elfen Lied... I have it as well. I got the Anime-MX version which has dual-audio (ENG-JAP) with Eng subs which I got from some anime forum posted on Mega-upload. I got all episodes in a couple of hours... Also when I checked the torrent sites for this version I saw there weren't so many seeders for this release, but by typing the release name on google I found all torrent sites that had this exact release and added the addresses to the torrent in the torrent client, keeping in mind to get only the addresses with at least one viable seeder and was surprised to see the files downloading with such high speed. SO NEXT TIME YOU GET A BAD RELEASE OR MAYBE WANT TO COMPARE RELEASES USE THE TORRENT SITES FULLEST FOR THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF SEEDERS, OR MAYBE YOU CAN FIND DIRECT LINKS. Hope my advices help. Ba' bye m8s! Sal.:)
